Points of Interest in Amritsar

 

Jallianwala Bagh


Just 15 minutes away from the hotel is the location of the Amritsar Massacre, which took place on 13 April 1919. This is where 379 people died and over 1,200 were injured during one of Punjab’s largest religious festivals. Today, this site has been transformed into a park with beautiful surrounding gardens. At the entrance, there is a plaque which recounts the history. A memorial at the east end of the garden includes remnants of walls that have been preserved to show bullet holes.

There is a light and sound show every evening.

Ram Bagh


Named as a tribute to Guru Ram Das, this beautiful garden is located 20 minutes away from the hotel, in the new part of town. Ram Bagh features a museum housed in the old Summer Palace, which contains weapons from the Mughal era as well as paintings, coins and miniatures from the Sikh period.

Wagah Border


Also known as the ‘Berlin Wall of South Asia’ it is the only road crossing between India and Pakistan. The Wagah border is a 45- minute drive from the hotel and is known among tourists as the ‘Beating of the Retreat Ceremony,’ which has been held every day since it first began in 1959. The ceremony can be viewed from seating which is barely 100 meters away from the border.


A fun and entertaining event, visit the Pakistan border at Wagah to watch the ceremonial border-closing ceremony where Indian and Pakistani soldiers conduct a march-off every evening during the Beating Retreat and Change of Guard.

Location: On the main Grand Trunk road near Attari
Hours: Daily, starting at sunset and lasting for 45 minutes
